80% of women in the UK are wearing the wrong size bra! The BBC website ‘Slink’ for teenage girls suggests that this fact is purely:

…due to the fact that the maths involved in measuring bra size is so darned complicated that most of us just pick up whatever bra looks OK, and hope for the best.

Common problems are:

  • ‘Off-the-shelf’ bras may offer the correct cup size but ‘standard’ strap sizes make the complete bra too big or too small for taller or shorter women.
  • Women tend to underestimate bra sizes in the cup and overestimate their back sizes.
  • Most people think that the reason that their bra strap is rising up their back is not to do with their bra size but because they have put on weight.
  • Lymph flow inside your breasts – if you are wearing a bra that is too small you could be looking at future health issues.
  • Most women are scared stiff of allowing an unknown woman to see them in just a bra  ( let alone touch them!)

The simple fact is that you are not going to get as good a set of measurements yourself as you would if you were measured by someone else.
